Spreading depression and evoked potentials recorded in the somatosensory cortex of the rat

چکیده
Cortical spreading depression (CSD) is associated with changes in the caliber of surface blood vessels; others have described it as a phenomenon which arises spontaneously and repetitively following acute cortical injury in animals, including both focal ischemia and trauma, while yet other researchers consider it to be an electrophysiological substrate of migraine aura, which may trigger headache. Our group is involved in research into both migraine and ischemia-induced pathophysiological states. It therefore appeared reasonable to include the study of CSD in the methodological repertoire utilized in our laboratory. We introduced two models of CSD induction: CSD evoked during continuous topical KCl application and CSD induced through a single KCl microinjection into the cortical tissue. This paper describes details of these two methods and of basic parameters of CSDs. Acta Biol Szeged 54(2):161-164 (2010)

Postnatal Changes of Conduction Velocity of the Fibers in and out of the Mouse Barrel Cortex
There are some conflicts about constancy of conduction velocity (CV) in a given tract of nervous system. By recording excitatory postsynaptic currents (EPSC) in layer IV of the somatosensory cortex we tried to clear changes in CV of thalamocortical tract of mice aged 3 to 50 days old. Field potentials and EPSC were recorded in the layer IV by stimulation of ventrobasal nucleus of thalamus (VB) ...
متن کاملImpact of hypokinesia on dynamics of formation of evoked potentials in sensorimotor cortex in early postnatal ontogenesis
The analysis of evoked potentials of sensorimotor cortex in response to electrical stimulation of n. ischiadicus shows that the extremal factor hypokinesia has a negative impact on the dynamics of formation of amplitudal and temporal characteristics since eyes openning in 2-weeks old rats. The most vulnerable process to the impact of hypokinesia is the first-positive phase, which disappears in ...
متن کاملEffects of visual deprivation on epileptic activity in mature rat visual cortex
Effects of visual deprivation on the induction of epileptiform activity were studied in layer II/III of mature rat primary visual cortex. Field potentials were evoked by stimulation of layer IV in slices from control and dark-reared (OR) rats. Picrotoxin (PTX)-induced epileptic activity was characterized by spontaneous and evoked epileptic field potentials (EFPs). The results showed that OR s...

متن کاملModulatory Effects of Dopamine D2 Receptors on Spreading Depression in Rat Somatosensory Neocortex
Introduction: Spreading depression (SD) is a propagating wave of depolarization followed by depression of the neuroglial activities and can modulate extracellular dopamine concentrations in the neocortex. It has been shown that the dopaminergic system plays a role in migraine. SD has been suggested as a critical phenomenon in the pathophysiology of migraine. The aim of this study was to investi...
